Jetstar plane nearly collides with van at Australian airport

Australian authorities are investigating a serious near miss at Townsville Airport, Queensland, between an incoming Jetstar flight and a van on the runway. Approaching Townsville from Brisbane on Oct. 7, the Airbus A320 crew saw the vehicle enter the runway area, according to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau. The van was stopped at the edge of the strip as the jet passed about 50 feet above the ground. Jetstar flight JQ908 landed, and the vehicle crossed the runway. No injuries were reported, but the ATSB classified it as a serious incident. The probe also looks at other close calls at Sydney Airport, including 11 incidents in July and August.
