Jetstar To Fly The 1st Commerical Flight From Sydney's New $14 Billion Airport
Jetstar will inaugurate Western Sydney Airport (WSI) on October 25, with its inaugural service from the new facility 27 miles west of Sydney to the Gold Coast on flight JQ362. The first stage of WSI features a single 12,000-foot runway (3,700 meters) and a capacity of up to 10 million passengers annually. Jetstar will operate about 21 weekly flights at opening, with 14 to Melbourne, four to the Gold Coast, and three to Brisbane, using Airbus A320 aircraft with 188 seats. Qantas plans to begin operations from WSI in March 2027 with Embraer E190s, and cargo services start in late July; international services commence in 2026 as Air New Zealand links to Auckland in October 2026. The airport is connected by the M12 toll-free motorway to enhance ground access.
