Joe Klecko, Marty Lyons open up on Jets' infamous 'Mud Bowl' loss to Dolphins: 'Mother Nature hated us'

Jets legend Joe Klecko and Marty Lyons revisited the 1983 AFC Championship “Mud Bowl” during Dolphins week, recalling how Miami’s 14-0 win was shaped by the Miami field and New York’s mistakes. In a Q&A with Post columnist Steve Serby, Klecko said the defense struggled to move through the mud and described Richard Todd’s five-interception performance and the impact of turnovers, including one returned for a touchdown. The discussion also revisited controversy over Don Shula not covering the field with a tarp, with Klecko noting there was no rule requiring it at the time. Both players recalled the downpour and “Mother Nature” working against them.
