Lighthouse Green Fuels Confirms Land Option Agreement for Multibillion SAF facility
Lighthouse Green Fuels, the SAF project brand of Alfanar, confirmed it has signed a land option agreement for its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) facility in Seal Sands, Teesside. The deal secures the site for a multibillion-dollar LGF plant described as a world-leading second-generation SAF project, among the largest globally and the most advanced in Europe. The UK’s first new refinery since the 1960s, it is designed for end-to-end SAF production from feedstock pre-treatment to fuel storage. Once operational, it would produce 180 million liters of SAF and 30 million liters of renewable naphtha annually from sustainably sourced biomass residues. With access to carbon capture and storage, the fuel could be carbon-negative, cutting lifecycle emissions by over 200% versus conventional jet fuel. FEED was completed in late May, core technology licenses secured, and a Development Consent Order process continues toward a final application submission in summer. Alfanar has invested about £90 million so far, with £100 million more expected before a final investment decision targeted for end-2027.
