London-bound flight returns to Boston due to odor

A Delta Air Lines flight bound for London returned to Boston Logan International Airport shortly after takeoff Thursday night after the crew reported an odor on board. Delta Flight 58 departed Logan for Heathrow with 280 passengers, but pilots turned the aircraft around and declared an emergency to air traffic control, according to a Delta spokesperson speaking to WCVB. Flight tracking data from FlightAware showed the plane took off at about 7 p.m. and remained airborne for just under an hour before the U-turn. The airline said it was inspecting the aircraft and arranging alternative travel for customers. Delta did not confirm the odor’s source or whether anyone reported health symptoms.
