A longtime Clinton aide walked back his prior claim that former President Bill Clinton visited Jeffrey Epstein’s island, according to GOP Rep. Nancy Mace and two sources familiar with closed-door testimony on Capitol Hill. Doug Band is the 17th person to testify behind closed doors as part of the House Oversight Committee investigation into Epstein’s network and how earlier probes were handled. Clinton testified in February, and at the time he said Band worked for him for years and that Band knew both Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. In 2020, Band told Vanity Fair that Clinton visited Epstein’s private island in 2003, but during Clinton’s February testimony, Clinton said he was never on the island. The sources say that when Band later interviewed with the panel, he amended his statement, saying he had no evidence Clinton went to the island and that he does not remember why he told Vanity Fair. Mace said she is seeking a subpoena from Oversight Chair James Comer. The Justice Department’s earlier release of Epstein case files offered additional context about Band’s communications.
