Lufthansa pilots told to carry extra fuel amid Frankfurt supply issues - report By Investing.com
Lufthansa has told pilots to load extra fuel on selected flights into Frankfurt due to tightening fuel supply conditions at Germany’s busiest airport, Bild reported on Thursday. The airline linked the measure to months of low water levels on the Rhine that have disrupted barge deliveries and to reduced pipeline capacity feeding the airport during scheduled maintenance. Bild said Lufthansa directed crews to practice “tankering,” taking more fuel than needed so aircraft may need less—or no—refueling on arrival. Extra fuel is capped at 8 tons on Airbus A320-family aircraft so planes can still be towed on the ground. The guidance mainly targets short-haul operations but may also apply to some long-haul flights. Lufthansa said it does not expect cancellations, and Fraport said the pipeline work is routine and operations aren’t impaired.
