Luxair Invests €12m in Training Future Pilots
Luxair invested €12 million in training future pilots, expanding its Ab Initio program and sponsorship pipeline announced on Friday, 10 July 2026. The airline said the funding targets candidates primarily from Luxembourg and the Greater Region, combining an Ab Initio pathway for people with no prior aviation experience with sponsorships for selected students already pursuing a professional EASA licence. Under Ab Initio, candidates can be selected after secondary education without requiring previous flight experience or operational flying hours, receiving theoretical instruction, simulator training and practical flight time focused on flying skills, safety procedures and operational scenarios. Luxair partners with BAA Training in Spain and RWL German Flight Academy in Germany to provide standardized training and allow monitoring of cadets throughout their programs. CEO Gilles Feith said the investment is aimed at securing the skills needed for reliable, quality operations. Luxair reported recruiting more than 130 pilots over six years through three channels, with fewer than 5% trained initially in Luxembourg-based organizations.
