Major European airport to close for nearly 3 months with all flights cancelled
xCruzo Brief
Brussels South Charleroi Airport in Belgium, the country’s second busiest and main hub for low-cost carriers, will close for 11 weeks with all flights cancelled as part of a £43 million (€50 million) redevelopment. The airport will shut from August 15 to October 31, 2028, because its single 3,200-metre runway cannot operate partially during the works. The project includes fully reconstructing the runway, upgrading terminal areas, improving aircraft parking stands, replacing drainage and airfield lighting, and renewing taxiway markings. More than two million passengers are expected to be affected from the 11.2 million handled in 2025.
