Layne Lundeen, 67, of Tucson, Arizona, has been indicted for a mid-flight assault that led passengers to restrain him and forced pilots to make an emergency landing at BWI Airport in Maryland. Prosecutors say the incident occurred nearly two hours into a Sept. 3 American Airlines flight from Dallas to Newark. Charging documents allege Lundeen interfered with flight attendants and crew, ignored instructions, and used abusive language including racial slurs toward staff and travelers. Authorities also claim he attacked a seatmate by grabbing him by the neck and strangling, then struck a woman who intervened. He also allegedly bit rescuers. If convicted, he faces up to 21 years.
