Man nearly sucked out of 'detached' window on Ryanair flight

A man was nearly pulled out of a detached window on a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, according to witnesses and aviation officials. The incident occurred when the passenger window detached mid-air, prompting passengers to rush to help pull him back inside. Greek media reported that it happened over North Macedonia and that debris detached from one of the aircraft’s engines broke the window. Authorities said the injured passenger, described as a tourist from Serbia, was hospitalized with friction burns but was otherwise in good condition, and witnesses compared the sound to a tire bursting before the cabin decompression. Ryanair stated the flight returned to Thessaloniki shortly after takeoff, landed normally, and that a replacement aircraft transported remaining passengers to Germany. Boeing said it was aware and in contact with Ryanair. The FAA confirmed the event involved a broken window on a Boeing 737-800, while the NTSB said North Macedonia will lead the investigation and has appointed a U.S. representative with technical advisors standing by.
