Marshall Aerospace Nears Sale To Private Equity Firm | Aviation Week
Marshall Aerospace’s parent has agreed to sell the C-130 maintenance and overhaul specialist to European private equity firm Aurelius, a move the board says strengthens the company’s prospects. Family-owned Marshall of Cambridge entered an agreement to sell Marshall Aerospace to Aurelius, following a competitive sale process announced Sept. 2. The deal comes after years of losses at the parent that prompted divestment of non-core assets, including pressure from the UK government’s plan to retire the Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules fleet in favor of an all-Airbus A400M fleet. Relocation also looms as Cambridge City Airport is slated for closure; a move to Cranfield Airport was halted last year due to cost. Aurelius says it has funding to support relocation, with Marshall committing to vacate Cambridge by end of June 2029. The U.S. facility at Piedmont Triad International Airport and a separate Greensboro lease transaction are not included; UK government and antitrust approvals are required.
