Martin Lewis shares his tips on how to get holidays cheaper
Martin Lewis has challenged the assumption that booking holidays early always yields the cheapest fares, noting how dynamic pricing now governs airline tickets. Appearing on This Morning, the consumer advocate explained that airlines adjust prices in real time based on demand, availability and booking patterns, meaning prices can rise or fall after a booking is made. He highlighted that a viewer paid £4,200 for return business-class flights to Bangkok with British Airways, only to find the same itinerary later advertised at roughly £3,300, illustrating the volatility of prices.
Rather than chasing the bottom price, Lewis advised travelers to prioritise flexible bookings with free cancellation when feasible, so they can rebook at lower rates if prices drop. He compared car hire and hotels to show similar dynamics and warned that those who already booked without flexibility may face limited options if prices fall, urging careful review of cancellation terms before making changes.
