Massive' Ukrainian drone attack targets Moscow oil refinery, local authorities say

Ukraine launched a wave of drone strikes across Moscow early Thursday, with local authorities reporting air defences intercepted about 180 UAVs approaching the capital, and several drones managed to strike a refinery in a 'massive' attack. Video circulating online appeared to show a large explosion and a major fire at the refinery site. Emergency services were dispatched to attack locations around the city, according to Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin. He also cited a drone strike that caused a fire at a southeast Moscow shopping centre in Zhukovsky and damage to an apartment building there. Kyiv has stepped up strikes on Russian energy facilities in recent months as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy frames the actions as long-range sanctions against Moscow. The Ukrainian leader arrived in Brussels on Wednesday, where he met NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and discussed the NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List and talks with G7, seeking more air‑defence missiles and stronger pressure on Moscow. Putin is hosting Southeast Asian leaders at the ASEAN‑Russia summit in Kazan, with participants including Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore, amid discussions of strategic partnerships and cooperation.
