Memorial to Rotherham RAF pilot Andrew Crowther unveiled

A memorial dedicated to RAF fighter pilot Andrew Crowther has been unveiled in Rotherham, honoring a crash that claimed his life during a snowstorm in Scotland. Crowther, a Flying Officer aged 25, was taking part in an exercise over Lossiemouth on 18 November 1981 when the accident occurred. The unveiling ceremony took place on Saturday in his home village of Wales within Rotherham. Organizers noted that his name could not be engraved on the village’s war memorial because he did not die in active conflict. Instead, the new memorial—funded by the Wales Parish Council—was placed adjacent to the existing memorial, preserving his remembrance without changing the original eligibility rules.
