Nearly 10 Years After Fatal Black Hawk Helicopter Crash in Leonardtown, Two Young Brothers Discover Possible Wreckage in Drained Lake
xCruzo Brief
Nearly nine and a half years after a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed at Breton Bay Golf Course in Leonardtown, two local brothers investigating a recently drained lake say they found debris that could be linked to the fatal April 17, 2017, crash. What appeared to be metal rods turned out to be a damaged tail rotor blade marked in a way consistent with the same type of military helicopter involved. The location—about half a mile from the golf course’s third-hole area—matches where the main wreckage was found. The Army’s earlier investigation concluded the tail rotor gearbox separated about 43 seconds before impact after a catastrophic tail rotor failure. The aircraft carried three people, including Spc. Jeremy Darrell Tomlin.
