New Wave of Hoax Calls Disrupt European Flights: Not Every Bomb Threat Ends Up With Planes Being Diverted
xCruzo Brief
Europe has faced a second consecutive day of major aviation disruption after a new wave of bomb threats, many of which proved to be hoaxes. On Thursday, at least 27 flights were reported as targets, with airports including Birmingham and London Heathrow also receiving threats tied to terminal attacks. An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome was diverted mid-flight to a military base in France. Ryanair’s London Stansted–Sofia route was rerouted to Plovdiv, and Wizz Air’s Milan–Warsaw flight was diverted to Vienna. Airlines affected included Air Europa, Iberia, Finnair and SAS, while searches found nothing suspicious.
