Budget airline issues 'three hour' warning to Scots travelling during the summer
Wizz Air’s chief executive is urging travelers to pack a portable charger and water as long airport queues are expected amid the new border checks. The European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES) requires fingerprints and facial data, with about 80 million entries and exits logged since the system’s trial began last October. The European Commission says EES is functioning well at most border points, yet airlines and airports report bottlenecks, notably at Spain, Portugal, and France. Wizz Air UK’s managing director described the impact as fragmented across Europe, prompting a recommendation to arrive three hours before departure and to allow extra time for connections. An industry survey of 45 airports across 20 EU states noted queues of up to three-and-a-half hours, while the EC cautions that other factors can also cause delays.
