Brad Pitt's son Maddox drops surname after being first kid to cut him off in 2016

Maddox Jolie Pitt has formalized what many observers long expected: at 24, he is changing his legal name to Maddox Chivan Jolie. The oldest of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children filed paperwork to drop Jolie-Pitt from his surname, with sources including TMZ and Us Weekly confirming the change. He will be known going forward as Maddox Chivan Jolie, a step that echoes the surname decisions of Zahara, Shiloh and Vivienne, who have also stopped using Pitt’s last name, with Shiloh beginning the process in 2024. Maddox was adopted by Jolie in 2002 from a Cambodian orphanage and reportedly testified against Pitt in the 2021 custody battle. Jolie previously adopted Pax as well, and Pitt’s 2016 private jet incident and subsequent investigations shaped years of public discord between the families.
