Pakistan Finance Minister's US Exim talks covered financing for Boeing aircraft, adviser says

Pakistan’s finance minister discussed potential U.S. Export-Import Bank financing for Boeing aircraft tied to privatised Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), according to an adviser. Khurram Schehzad said the talks also covered financing for refinery upgrades and the Reko Diq copper-and-gold project in southwestern Balochistan. He added that the government is helping PIA access financing and suppliers, but is not purchasing aircraft and has not announced any sovereign guarantee or taxpayer-funded loan. Schehzad said U.S. EXIM could secure financing against the aircraft and assess the airline or lessee’s creditworthiness, meaning a sovereign guarantee would not be automatic.
