Pilot who was attacked on plane: "I knew that I cannot let everybody else die"

The Israeli-bound pilot who was attacked by his co-pilot as he tried to crash the aircraft said he knew he was fighting to save not only himself, but everyone on board. In a video call released Friday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Smit Machchhar—an Indian captain with 11 years as captain and 17 years as a pilot—said he was trying to kick open the cockpit door so others could help. “I was telling…that I was doing this for my life, but at the same time I knew that I cannot let everybody else die.” Machchhar suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized; India’s embassy in the UAE said he was recovering.
