Plane crash in Bahamas kills 10 people
A plane crash in the Bahamas killed 10 people, including the pilot, on Friday, which the country marked as Independence Day, police said. Prime Minister Philip Davis called it a “day of mourning” during a press conference after the crash on the Caribbean island nation’s Independence Day. The victims’ nationalities have not yet been released. According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA), the accident occurred in the northern part of the Andros archipelago and involved a Cessna 402 operated by the local airline Flamingo Air. The aircraft was traveling from Nassau’s international airport to San Andros Airport. The AAIA said the plane reportedly encountered difficulties and crashed into bushes prior to landing, and the airline said it is cooperating with authorities to clarify the circumstances. The Aviation Ministry also noted that another Flamingo Air aircraft had reported a fire onboard earlier that day.
