Plane crashes on Texas highway, killing one: what to know

A small plane crashed onto Loop 20 in Laredo, Texas, late Tuesday, killing at least one person and sending five police officers to the hospital for smoke inhalation during rescue attempts. The aircraft was a Cessna Citation Latitude twin jet carrying six people and went down shortly after 10 p.m., according to Laredo police. It departed Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico at 6:19 p.m., and investigators have not yet determined a cause. The crash occurred not far from Laredo International Airport, about 140 miles southwest of San Antonio. Authorities cautioned that determination of the cause may take time and that investigators will review maintenance records and airframe data.
