Porter Airlines will exit Sudbury, Ontario, ending service between Sudbury and Ottawa in September after 15 years in the city. The airline will cancel the route, confirmed Christopher Pollesel, director of commercial development and passenger experience at Sudbury Airport, speaking to CBC News. Porter spokesperson Robyn van Teunenbroek said the cancellation is due to a market shift since the pandemic, with more people driving between Sudbury and Ottawa or opting for virtual meetings instead of business travel. The company also said it repositioned service to Ottawa from Toronto City in May, but “the results have not improved.” The final Porter flight out of Sudbury is scheduled for Sept. 7. Porter continues to serve Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins with flights to Toronto, and Quebec-based Propair is in discussions to add Sudbury routes to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
