A private Gulfstream G200 Galaxy jet en route to pick up MLB All-Star Yadier Molina crashed shortly after takeoff from La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic, killing both pilots. The U.S.-registered aircraft declared an emergency about 16 nautical miles southwest of La Romana, then skidded on grass and erupted into flames as it halted. The pilots, Erik Javier Diago and Ruddy Ghazal, were the only people aboard. Molina had been in Texas to watch his son compete in a UIL state baseball event and was traveling back to Puerto Rico. Dominican authorities, including IDAC and the CIAA, said they are investigating the crash.
