Qantas completed what it believes is the longest-ever commercial flight when its specially adapted Airbus A350 landed in Toulouse on Tuesday—24 hours and 24 minutes after departing Melbourne. The nonstop hop, which sparked a spike in online tracking, is part of Project Sunrise, with Qantas planning to use the A350-1000ULR for direct service from Australia to London. Airbus said the aircraft, equipped with an extra fuel tank, flew 23,075 km (14,338 miles) over the Pacific and Atlantic without stopping. Qantas has ordered 12 modified A350-1000ULR aircraft; the first is due for delivery in April 2027 and Qantas expects daily Sydney–London nonstops from October 2027.
