Reporter Sees Helicopter Crash on LA Street Live on Air

Los Angeles NBC4 reporter Robert Kovacik captured the moment he spotted a fatal helicopter crash on a city street, only to realize his own colleagues were aboard. Kovacik was live on air Tuesday night in Chatsworth while covering an earlier bus crash when the helicopter struck a parking lot. He raced toward the flames with his crew as thick black smoke rose; firefighters urged him to stay back. When police tried to keep him away, Kovacik became distressed, saying, “That’s my crew in there.” The helicopter’s victims were identified later as Eliana Moreno, 38, and pilot George Marciniw, 70.
