Retired pilot helps historical society buy Neil Armstrong's boyhood home for tours
xCruzo Brief
Ken Schreiber, a retired pilot who spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and later flew for American Airlines, has donated $400,000 to help the Auglaize County Historical Society buy Neil Armstrong’s boyhood home in Wapakoneta, Ohio. The sale is set to be finalized Monday. The two-story house, located at 601 W. Benton St., has never been open to the public but draws visitors from the Armstrong Air and Space Museum. The society plans restorations to match the home’s 1940s appearance and hopes to launch tours by 2030, marking the 100th anniversary of Armstrong’s birth. Schreiber’s bid came after reading the August listing and learning preservation efforts hadn’t materialized.
