SAF Startup Aims High Via Methanol-To-Jet Fuel Demo Plant, SWISS Deal
xCruzo Brief
Metafuels has unveiled a methanol-to-jet sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) demonstration plant at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland, pitching its Aerobrew e-SAF as a faster route to commercialization. The company’s move follows only months after it signed a strategic partnership with SWISS International Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group. Metafuels says its process delivers 50% lower production costs and 80% higher yields than traditional approaches, compared on similar sites. The startup has secured $24 million in Series A funding plus a €1.92 million grant for a first commercial Turbe e-SAF plant in Rotterdam, targeted for production by 2030.
