SAS Orders 18 Airbus A330-900neo Aircraft + Acquires Unspecified Number Of A330-300s
SAS announced a major Airbus widebody expansion tied to a new investment that could reach up to 40 aircraft, combining orders for future and near-term capacity. The carrier said it has placed an order for 18 or 20 Airbus A330-900neo jets, alongside an unspecified number of A330-300s, with the release referencing “up to 40” widebodies in total. SAS described the A330-900neo as a three-class aircraft carrying 287 to 303 seats with a range up to 7,350 nautical miles, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. For the A330-300, SAS cited typical three-class capacity of 250 to 290 seats and a range of 6,350 nm. SAS framed the deal as its highest-value aircraft order ever, with a list price above USD 10 billion. The announcement, led by CEO Anko van der Werff, follows last year’s record order for 55 Embraer E195-E2 jets and complements ongoing A320neo fleet renewal.
