Savannah woman sentenced to life in prison for 2017 murder
A Savannah woman was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for a 2017 murder case in Chatham County Court. The Chatham County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday that Deborah Carol Garner was convicted of malice murder and felony murder in the death of Eric Lamar Jenkins. Prosecutors said Garner shot and killed Jenkins, 38, on Montgomery Street and W. Park Avenue after being kicked out of a local bar on Dec. 30, 2017. Authorities said she fled the scene, attempted to clean blood from her car, and then went to South Carolina. Garner claimed self-defense, but prosecutors argued she shot Jenkins without reason, describing her during the case as an aggressive violent drunk who attacked without provocation. She received life with parole eligibility.
