Six UK airports lose half their flights to Mallorca this winter

Six UK airports are cutting more than half of their winter flights to Mallorca, tightening options for people returning from the island around Christmas. The steepest drop is London Southend to Palma, down as much as 83% versus last winter, according to figures cited by the Majorca Daily Bulletin and Última Hora. East Midlands is down 75%, Newcastle down 64%, and Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh each lose roughly 54% to 55%, with Edinburgh down 61%. Across Palma’s airport, Son Sant Joan, total flights fall 9.1% while passenger numbers dip only 1.3%, suggesting airlines are reducing routes seen as less profitable after summer. Ryanair’s Palma operation declines 18%, while Vueling rises 17.4% to become busiest, and easyJet is down 21%. New long-haul services to the US and Middle East expand as regional UK connections shrink.
