Small aircraft crashes into Beijing's tallest building, according to flight tracking service
A small aircraft crashed into Beijing’s tallest building on Friday, according to flight tracking provider Flightradar24, confirming reports from witnesses and evacuations in the city’s business district. The provider identified the aircraft as a Sunward SA 60L Aurora, which took off from an airport about 50 kilometers east of Beijing and flew westward. The flight path ended just east of the East Third Ring Road shortly before 6 p.m. local time, with Flightradar24 saying it hit the CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun, which rises more than 1,700 feet (528 meters). The article notes that the cause was unknown and authorities had not issued statements. No immediate information on on-ground casualties was available, and Chinese state media had not reported the crash. Images of debris circulated after posts were removed within China.
