Stop, Stop, Stop": ATC Scrambles To Halt Air Canada Jet As Southwest 737 Lands In St. Louis
Air traffic controllers in St. Louis stopped an Air Canada Express regional jet from entering the runway after clearing a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 to land on the same Runway 12R. The Air Canada Express flight, AC8886 operated by Jazz Aviation (callsign Jazz 886), had been told to depart seconds earlier, but the tower cancelled the takeoff clearance repeatedly with urgent “Stop” instructions as the Southwest 737 was on final approach. The CRJ900 halted before the hold-short line, maintaining required separation. Southwest flight 3082 from Minneapolis landed safely, and no injuries were reported. The FAA said the stop prevented a potential collision. The incident follows a fatal Jazz-related runway collision at LaGuardia seven months earlier.
