The 21.5-Inch Business Class Seat That Threatens Collins, Safran & RECARO's Grip On Mid-Size Airlines
xCruzo Brief
UK seat maker Unum Aircraft Seating used Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2026 to unveil the Unum Two cabin-ready business class product after a three-year development program covering industrial design, engineering and certification testing. The forward-facing, 21.5-inch (54.6 cm) wide seat includes a privacy door and direct aisle access, plus the company’s patented Scimitar mechanism for “zero-gravity” positioning. Unum Two is designed for staggered installation on mid-size aircraft as an alternative to reverse herringbone layouts. If adopted broadly, it challenges established leaders such as Collins Aerospace, Safran and RECARO. Unum says its modular design and through-life support aim to reduce downtime and support sustainable recycling.
