After a 1,106-day drought, Gungahlin Jets snapped its winless run by beating Batemans Bay Seahawks 12.10 (82) to 8.8 (56) at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval on Saturday. The victory ended a three-year stretch without wins that included 42 consecutive losses and back-to-back winless seasons, with some defeats reaching margins as high as 220 points. Ethan Councillor, described by coach Russell Stewart as “everybody’s favourite player,” surged to the top of AFL Canberra’s goal-kicking list with seven majors and 40 goals for the season, including a comeback from a knee reco last year. Stewart said the club made sure everyone involved joined the postgame song celebrating the result.
