They've left without me': Air NZ customer stranded after flight goes early
An Air New Zealand passenger was left stranded after a connecting Queenstown flight departed early, according to the traveler’s family. The husband was told at the gate that the Queenstown service had departed early, leaving three connecting passengers behind, while Air New Zealand confirmed the flight “left slightly early” after boarding had closed. A spokesperson said departure timing depended on runway availability and air traffic control requirements. The airline’s general manager for customer care, Alisha Armstrong, said Flight NZ448 arrived about 20 minutes late, meaning boarding for the Queenstown connection had already closed. Affected passengers were put up in a hotel overnight and given a $90 food voucher, but the family said it disrupted weekend plans and required an early 4:30 a.m. start to try again for the 6:00 a.m. departure. Armstrong said the airline could not always hold onward flights once boarding ended.
