In a Tuesday post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump said he met with Lebanon’s president, Joseph Aoun, praising efforts to “transform Lebanon,” and announced he would “allow U.S. airline carriers to fly directly to Lebanon.” He described the move as a “beautiful land” and said he hoped other countries would follow. The report noted that U.S. airlines have not flown to Beirut since 1985, when TWA Flight 847 was hijacked and forced to land in Beirut. United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta did not immediately respond to a comment request. The U.S. State Department maintains a “Do not travel” advisory due to risks including crime, terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, landmines and armed conflict. Reuters reported the FAA said it expects to work with airlines to implement the directive and support safe return of flights.
