Ukraine sends hundreds of drones toward Moscow in major aerial attack
Ukraine carried out a large overnight drone attack targeting Moscow, escalating a long-range campaign ahead of a pivotal NATO summit in Turkey. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine launched more than 400 drones toward Russia’s capital, with air defenses intercepting most of the incoming aircraft during distant approaches. He added that 36 “enemy UAVs” were destroyed on approach to Moscow. In Russia’s south-west, Acting Belgorod regional governor Aleksandr Shuvaev reported missile strikes on Belgorod city and surrounding areas, killing one person. The developments follow a previous day in which Russian strikes killed 30 people in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged allies to take stronger action for air defense as leaders prepared to meet in Ankara, stating on Facebook that decisive support was critical. U.S. President Donald Trump said a resolution was “getting closer” but provided no concrete basis.
