United Airlines cancels Denver 9/11 flyover after 'concerns in the community'

United Airlines canceled a planned 9/11 flyover of a Boeing 777 escorted by F-16s over Denver after “concerns in the community,” the airline said Wednesday. The event was meant as part of a private 9/11 memorial, following a notice by Denver emergency management warning residents it could be “highly visible” and noticeable by sound. City officials emphasized there was “no emergency” and that the flyover was intended to honor the victims lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The aircraft was scheduled to depart Denver International Airport at 8:15 a.m., joined by a 120th Fighter Squadron from Buckley Space Force Base. United did not explain the concerns, and Denver officials said they understood the plan could still surprise the public. The airline’s Sept. 11 memorial service is not open to the public.
