United Boeing 757 Declares Mayday As Fuel Runs Low After Aborted Landing At San Francisco
A United Airlines Boeing 757 declared a Mayday on Friday morning after aborting an approach and going around at San Francisco International Airport due to low fuel. The aircraft, operating flight UA1023 from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), was on final approach to Runway 28R when it went around due to an unstable approach. Moments later, the crew radioed “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday, fuel emergency,” climbed to 5,000 feet, and reported 5,200 lbs remaining. With 97 people onboard, the 757 landed safely about 14 minutes after the go-around, and no injuries were reported. Air traffic control had cleared the plane to land and warned about wake turbulence from a Boeing 787 ahead, plus a slight tailwind of five knots. United said the crew did not declare an emergency, though it confirmed passenger and crew counts.
