United to offer travelers free flight changes to avoid landing at Trump International Airport
United to offer travelers free flight changes to avoid landing at Trump International Airport after the airport’s renaming has triggered customer complaints. United Airlines says it will allow passengers who do not want to fly to President Donald J. Trump International Airport—formerly Palm Beach International Airport—to make alternate flight changes at no extra cost, based on an internal memo. The memo directs reservation agents to offer nearby options such as Fort Lauderdale (FLL) or Miami International (MIA), processing the change as an even exchange. Fort Lauderdale is about 45 miles south of West Palm Beach, and Miami is about 72 miles away. The memo also notes that the airport’s commercial passenger code is expected to remain PBI until an IATA change to DJT on Aug. 18, while systems are updated accordingly.
