Vietnam Airlines secures $2.9bn US EXIM commitment for Boeing deal
Vietnam Airlines secures $2.9bn US EXIM commitment for Boeing deal details a financing step for Boeing aircraft for the carrier. Vietnam Airlines announced on Tuesday it has received a preliminary commitment from the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) for a loan worth up to US$2.9 billion to support its planned purchase of 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The commitment, linked to an agreement signed in February in Washington, D.C., is intended to help the airline access international funding at competitive costs while diversifying sources for long-term fleet investment. Deliveries are scheduled between 2030 and 2032, and the aircraft will be used on domestic and Asian regional routes. The airline said the modernization project supports a strategy targeting average annual growth in the double digits over the next five years, projecting about 168 million passengers and more than 2.25 million metric tons of cargo. EXIM is also exploring financing for related U.S.-linked projects such as engines and maintenance facilities.
