Watch plane makes emergency landing on Florida highway
A small single-engine plane made an emergency landing on Florida’s Interstate 10 on Monday after reporting mechanical problems. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said a pilot and flight student declared the issue, forcing the landing on I-10. Florida Highway Patrol told WEAR-TV that the aircraft suffered engine failure. No injuries were reported. KYMA said the plane had taken off from, and was scheduled to land at, Pensacola International Airport when the pilot reported losing oil pressure. Dash-cam footage captured by truck driver Eric Jordan shows a close call as the aircraft came down; Jordan said it was nearly inside the cab area had he not slowed down and saw it in time. Air Traffic Control audio cited by WEAR News included the pilot saying they smelled burning oil and stating, “We’re not making the airport, we’re going down on I-10.”
