Water firm under pressure as supplies struggle to meet 'high demand'
Wessex Water urged customers in Dorset to use water wisely as a heatwave drives “very high demand” and makes it harder to keep supplies flowing smoothly into homes. The Met Office issued its third heatwave warning of the year, forecasting low to mid-30s°C across much of southern England, including Dorset, for several consecutive days, potentially extending into next week. Wessex Water said prolonged hot, dry conditions and heavy usage are adding strain to its network, although supplies are not running out. In customer messaging, the company said it is experiencing “high demand for water” and asked households to moderate use until conditions ease, especially during peak periods. It also warned phone lines may be busier and encouraged customers to report leaks or blockages through its online “Report a Problem” tool. Separately, health officials issued an amber Heat-Health Alert for the South West until 9pm on Sunday, July 12.
