WestJet passengers are bracing for potential disruption after CUPE issued a 72-hour strike notice covering 4,400 flight attendants at Canada’s second-largest carrier. WestJet responded with a 72-hour lockout notice. The work stoppage has not started yet; the earliest strike could begin is Sunday at 12:01 a.m. MT (2:01 a.m. ET) if no agreement is reached. WestJet said the notices don’t immediately affect operations, but some flights could be grounded by Friday if negotiations fail. Travelers booked on WestJet Encore or code-share flights with partners like Delta Air Lines would not be affected, the airline said. For bookings directly with WestJet, one-time changes or cancellations are allowed for travel between July 30 and Aug. 4 without fees.
