Why It Took Years For Boeing To Finally Get The Orders For The 787-10 It Always Wanted
xCruzo Brief
Boeing’s 787-10 Dreamliner variant, launched at the 2013 Paris Air Show, has taken years to reach the sales pace its maker expected. By mid-2025, the -10 had only 433 gross orders, versus 1,557 for the 787-9. Industry consensus had long suggested the -10 lacked the range needed for demanding transoceanic routes, pushing it toward higher-density regional or shorter transatlantic missions. The picture changed in late 2025 and early 2026 as major carriers placed commitments, including Qatar Airways, British Airways, Korean Air and Turkish Airlines. Delta ordered 30 in January 2026, and United converted 56 787-9 orders.
