Widebodies: Airbus Closing In On A330neo & A350 Order From SAS

Airbus is reportedly close to landing a major widebody order from SAS, likely a mix of A330neo and A350 jets totaling 15 to 20 aircraft with deliveries planned for the early 2030s. Bloomberg said the agreement could be finalized within weeks, marking one of the European airline’s most significant long‑haul fleet decisions this year in a contest that also included Boeing. SAS has previously weighed multiple types, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 777X, as it maps long‑haul growth, but the choice would reinforce Airbus given SAS’s all‑Airbus widebody fleet. SAS’s 2026 fleet totals 72 aircraft, including 4 A319-100, 5 A320-200, 46 A320neo, 3 A321LR, 8 A330-300, and 6 A350-900, underscoring the value of commonality. The February commentary by SAS Chief Executive Anko van der Werff that the airline was studying a substantial widebody acquisition also framed the broader context for such a decision.
