World Cup winners including Thomas Müller buy Portuguese top-flight team in $47M deal

Three World Cup winners have joined an international consortium to buy a controlling stake in Portuguese top-flight club Estrela da Amadora. Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Lucas Hernandez and Yann Sommer are investing after the group agreed to purchase 90% of the club for about 40 million euros (US$47 million) from former owner and president Paulo Lopo. Estrela confirmed the deal Tuesday. Lopo previously bought the club for 72,000 euros in 2020. Müller and Hummels won with Germany in 2014, while Hernandez won with France in 2018. Johannes Mösmang will replace Lopo as president.
