Wounded Ukrainian soldier waited 2 days to be rescued. Then a drone flew him to safety
xCruzo Brief
Ukraine has begun using specialized aerial rescue drones to evacuate wounded soldiers, with the first operations involving two troops near the Russian border, an elite unit said Monday. The six-rotor StarGate drone, developed by SkyFall, carries an enclosed evacuation capsule and flew in two missions over the past week. One rescued serviceman, 24-year-old “Izyum,” said he waited two days to be evacuated and was unable to walk about 12 miles from the combat zone after his injury tore off half of his foot. The flight lasted under 15 minutes, landing in tall grass entangled with fiber-optic spool cable. The drone is designed to reduce rescue time from hours to minutes and can carry 330 pounds.
